Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American performer and actress with a career that spanned 40 years. London was a torch-singer, known for her soft, smooth voice. She recorded over 30 albums of jazz and pop standards from 1955 until 1969. The album she released as her debut "Cry Me a River" which she recorded was inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for her performance in the role of Dixie McCall, a nurse on Emergency! Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she began her acting career. London's acting career lasted for 35 years and began in 1944 , with roles in movies. They included roles as the female lead in many westerns. London also starred alongside Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) as well as Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-1950s she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional music career. In 1969 she released her final studio album. However, she continued to be an actor on the Emergency show in the role of Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) and was a co-star along with Bobby Troup. The show was directed by her former husband Jack Webb.
